Dr Namira Williams
Professional Bio
Namira is a lecturer with the School of Nursing and Midwifery. She has recently completed her PhD thesis ‘Travelling with two: balancing identity and risk in women with intellectual disability’ at the University of Newcastle. This thesis reflects her commitment to social justice issues and working to improve healthcare for women and families in disadvantaged groups. Her career has focused on projects with Indigenous women, adolescents, culturally and linguistically diverse women, and women with disability. Namira has presented her work at many conferences, and has received awards at several of these. In 2013 she was awarded the Australian college of Midwives ‘NSW Midwife of the year’ for her dedication to improving the health of mothers and babies.
