Dr Darshini Ayton

Professional Bio

Dr Darshini Ayton is an NHMRC Emerging Leader Fellow and Primary Investigator for the MyCare Ageing Trial and industry-funded Dementia Model of Care Project. She is the Deputy Head of the Health and Social Care Unit at the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Monash University. The work of the Health and Social Care Unit encompasses research spanning the lifespan from preconception to ageing and across multiple sectors - health, social care, and education and is the first Health and Social Care Unit to be established in a Faculty of Medicine in Australia. Dr Ayton leads the HSCU ageing work. Her research links acute care to community and residential aged care and encompasses dementia prevention, innovative diagnostics for dementia and sector-spanning models of care to improve quality of care and quality of life. She is a highly sought-after health and social care services and improvement researcher because of her recognised skills, unique expertise, and innovation in health and social care research and methodological approaches, including qualitative research, consumer and community involvement, clinical registries, intervention development, randomised controlled trials and implementation science. Dr Ayton works closely with health services in Victoria and national residential aged care and in-home care providers across the not-for-profit and private sectors.
